Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hines Funeral Home, Inc. - Hartsville on Jul. 29, 2025.
William Lee Lighty, affectionately known as "Pete," transitioned on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, peacefully at his

residence in Bishopville. Mr. Lighty was born on March 14, 1951, in Bishopville, South Carolina, a son of Fleetwood "Love" Lighty and Bertha Moses Lighty.

William was educated in the Lee County Public School System and later married Rowdell Pompey Lighty. Thereafter, he became a farmer and a trucker who loved to hit the roads at any given time. He farmed in the Lee County areas for many

years and later began driving log trucks for John Maxie Catoe in the Bethune area. Pete was a joy to be around and always found a new nickname for you as a way to make you laugh. He was a kind and gentleman who many loved and will never forget.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fleetwood "Love" and Bertha Moses Lighty, both of his sons, William Bernard Lighty, Jr., and Woodrow Kenneth Lighty; his sisters, Catherine (Harry Lee) Delaine and Linda Marie (Jeff Jr.) Henry.

William Lee Lighty is survived by: his daughter, Chaplain, Fabino Michelle Pompey of Hartsville, SC; three grandchildren, Brierra Tanee Lighty, William Bernard Lighty III, and Ta'niya Camille Lighty all of Columbia, SC; his only great-granddaughter, Amiri Zanay McGoogan of Columbia, SC; bonus grandson, Twyzae McGoogan of Columbia; his sisters, Mattie (Ulyssess) Burris of Sumter, SC, Bertha (Vaughn) Hunter of Phoenix, AZ, Barbara Lighty of Darlington, SC, and Cynthia Lighty of Hartsville, SC;
