William Eagles "Cap" Lovelace Jr., born August 21, 1946 and raised in Crisp, North Carolina, passed peacefully at his home in Williamsburg, Virginia, on February 4, 2026, surrounded by his family.

From an early age, Cap demonstrated leadership, discipline, and a gift for communication. He was an Eagle Scout, became a North Carolina State Future Farmers of America Public Speaking Champion and a two-time state competition winner. He later served as president of both the South Edgecombe FFA Chapter and the Nash–Edgecombe Federation of Future Farmers of America.

Cap attended North Carolina State University, enlisted in the United States Army, serving at Fort Bragg, North Carolina as an Intelligence Specialist and later graduated from North Carolina Wesleyan University. He spent part of his professional life in the Southeast as an agronomist, and later became a master cabinet maker in Williamsburg, Virginia, where he was respected for his craftsmanship, patience, and pride in work done well.

Cap is survived by his wife of 33 years, Pat Lovelace, of Williamsburg, Virginia; his son William Lovelace and wife Monica, of Littleton, North Carolina; his son James Lovelace; his grandson, Jacob Lovelace, of Raleigh, North Carolina; and his sister, Carol Shropshire and her husband Jed, of Columbia, South Carolina.

He is remembered for his integrity, service to others, skilled hands, and deep devotion to his family.
