William "Bill" Lynch, 77, of Iroquois, SD, peacefully left this earth on October 21, 2025 surrounded by his loving family to be with his Heavenly Father.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel and are pending.
Bill was the eldest of three children born July 27, 1948 in Huron, South Dakota to Retha and James Lynch. Bill grew up in nearby Iroquois, South Dakota at the Lynch family home and farm. Bill attended Iroquois High School and went on to study and graduate from Huron College where he received his Bachelor of Business Administration/Accounting and Economics. He worked over 25 years as the business manager for Hot Springs School District where he and his wife, Mary, raised their three sons. Bill was a member of the South Dakota State School Business Officials for 31 years and named President from 1990-1991. Bill was named the South Dakota Outstanding School Business Official in 1991-1992. He later moved to Pierre, South Dakota and was the CFO for the Associated School Boards of South Dakota until he retired.
Bill instilled a love of hunting, fishing, and athletics in his three sons and eight grandchildren. He made many lasting memories with his sons by planning annual fishing trips throughout the years. He loved supporting his sons and grandchildren throughout his life by attending sporting events and sharing his love of hunting, fishing, and archery with them as well. Bill had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel. Highlights of his travels included attending the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Alaska fishing trip with his sons, and meeting Lynch ancestors in Ireland. Bill's passion for civil rights, social justice, and education was inspiring and lives on in his family. Bill loved to cook, drink beer, laugh, and joke around with his family and friends. He enjoyed living life to the fullest and embraced the quote, "Get busy living, or get busy dying," from the movie The Shawshank Redemption, by checking many things off his bucket list throughout the years, like driving his Harley out to Sturgis and buying his own boat. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, and survived by his former wife Mary, son Brian (wife Zoe, children Sophie, Madelyn and Ethan) son Jeffrey (wife Maggie, children Rylie, Hannah and Mallory), son Douglas (wife Elizabeth, children Caleb and Benjamin) sister Rita Hunt (niece Tami (Joe, children Mackenzi, Joseph and Reagan), brother James Lynch (Sandy, niece Emily) and numerous lifelong friends. The Lynch family would like to thank the caring staff at the Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home in De Smet, SD and Avera Hospice team from Mitchell, SD who gave Bill such wonderful care.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in his honor to St. Paul's Cemetery in Iroquois, SD.
