William Marietta Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 30, 2025.
William D. Marietta, born June 28,1949 in Mill Run, PA, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025, surrounded by his family. William will be dearly missed by his beloved wife of 43 years, Susan Wilkerson Marietta, whom he cherished and protected, always bringing a smile to her face. They celebrated their anniversary every July 28 since their marriage in 1982. He is also survived by his sister, Patty Marietta Beverage (Al); stepdaughters Gretchen (Clawson) Leighliter (Jeff), Carmen Clawson; stepson Matthew Clawson; nieces; step grandchildren; and step great-grandchildren.

William was known as a fierce defender of his family, a loyal friend to those deserving loyalty, and a formidable adversary when needed. He was always ready to help those in need and stood up for the underdog. Hard work, honesty, and integrity guided his life, and his charisma drew others to him. His signature black cowboy hat became a symbol of his unique spirit. He loved animals, children, and the wonders of nature, especially the mountains of Pennsylvania and Tennessee. Camping with Susan in Ohio, Tennessee, Maryland, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania was among his favorite pastimes.

Professionally, William worked for Matta Fence, specializing in fence sales, installation, and automatic gate openers. He generously shared his expertise, teaching fence installation at Westmoreland County Community College and contributing to the community by donating and installing kennels at the local animal shelter, as well as regularly mowing the local bike path.

William's love for history was expressed in his active Civil War reenactment involvement-reaching a personal highlight at Gettysburg and serving as an extra in the movie "Gettysburg." His donation of railroad displays to the Youngwood Railroad Museum reflected his dedication to preserving history. With Susan, William danced through life with the Laurel Swingers square dance club, forging lifelong friendships on the way.

William Marietta leaves behind a legacy of generosity, loyalty, humor, and love. His spirit will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all he touched throughout his remarkable life. He will be forever missed by his wife and those who loved him most.

A celebration of life ceremony is planned for October 18, 2025, in the Connellsville area. Details will be shared on Facebook as they become available.
