William D. (Billy) Martinez, 77, of Santa Cruz, NM, passed February 7, 2026. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle. He loved his family, Sports and sweet desserts. He brought wisdom, guidance, peace and joy especially to his family and to all that knew him. He never missed a gathering. His favorite quote was “Life matters” and “Good Morning” with a smile on his face. Amidst the many challenges he endured.
Billy attended Santa Cruz High School, after High School he joined the US Army. He served in the Vietnam war with National Defense Service Ribbons, Vietnam service medal and four bronze service stars, Republic of Vietnam campaign medal. He was a rifle sharpshooter and had two Purple Heart ribbons.
Billy was preceeded in death by his parents Regilando and Cora Martinez, brother Sammy Martinez, nephew David Martinez and Grand granddaughter Denise Archuleta, also preceded in death his closest Confidants Silviano (Silver) and Nelly Ortega.
Billy is survived by the love of his life Geneva, his siblings Raymond and Lindy Martinez. His children Joe Trujillo (Ruby), Marie Martinez (Felix), Bernie Trujillo, Billy Martinez (Victoria). Grandchildren Myron, Joe, Jonathan Trujillo (Jessica), AJ Trujillo Melissa, Danette (Joshua), Lyanette (Ray), Bernie Jr, Joe, Jonathan - Destiny, and Lauren. Great grandkids Marcus and Angelique Cordova, Joe and Armani Trujillo, Stevana, Jacob, Jeremy, and Laila Rivera.
Billy will be remembered for his smile, strength, kindness and love. He will be greatly missed.
Services are pending.
Serving as Pallbearers are Ray Garcia, Joshua Cordova, Raymundo Ortega, and Daniel Ortega. Honorary Paul Bearers Felix Martinez and Jonathan Trujillo.
