William Marx Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 31, 2025.
William (Bill) H. Marx, Jr., 82, of Shoreline, WA, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025. Born to Florence O'Meara and William Henry Marx, Sr. on July 30, 1943, he was a much loved husband of Mary, his wife of 54 years, and loving father to Susan (Sue), Sara, William (Bill), and Matthew (Matt).

Bill was hard-working and dedicated. After graduation from the University of Notre Dame, he achieved a CPA certification and served in the Army Reserves while working as a staff accountant at his father's firm. He spent over thirty years as a revenue agent and IT manager for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) where he was known for his fairness, competency, and was proud of his diligent work on complex corporate tax investigations.

His work responsibilities paled in comparison to the time he devoted to his family and his interests. Whether spending time with his kids working on math homework or shuttling between competing school sports events, taking day trips or playing card games with his wife, Bill most enjoyed being with his family.

Bill was a master of Dad jokes and loved to talk to everyone at parties; he was known for his joviality, kindness, integrity, and love for rules. He left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

Bill enjoyed rooting for Notre Dame football, tinkering with computers, listening to music, hosting family barbecues, riding his motorcycle and taking car day trips, chilling with his dog, playing bridge, and shopping for incredible deals. His love for Dick's burgers and fries and Diet Coke was legendary, (something he shared with his children, leaving a mark on us that will never fade).

He is survived by his wife Mary; his children Susan, Sara, William, and Matthew; grandchild Piper; siblings Jeanne Zierten (Tom), Patricia Bacus (John), and Thomas; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family; as well as many friends who will miss him dearly. Preceded in death by his parents, his brother John Marx, sister Joan Monta, and nephew Thomas AlfaroZierten.

A private burial service will be held followed by a celebration of life. Memorial contributions may be made to Puget Sound Kidney Centers Foundation or the American Heart Association in honor of William H. Marx, Jr.
