William "Bill" Richard May Sr., 90, a resident of Harrison, passed away Friday, June 30, 2023, at Hillcrest Home.
He was born July 31, 1932, in Alpena Pass, Arkansas, to William Smyth and Delcie Viola Spruce May. He married Miss Ann Agresti on February 11, 1956, at St. Mary's Church in Cranston, Rhode Island. He was a United States Navy veteran of the Korean War, serving as a Seabee. He was a former member of the Lions Club and the Rustic Ramblers Square Dance Club. He and his wife enjoyed dancing together throughout most of their 66 years of marriage. He was a member of Mary Mother of God Catholic Church and of the Knights of Columbus. Most notably, his life work as general contractor, masonry contractor, and 4th generation bricklayer built his reputation for excellence and left many buildings in the community that testify to his good work. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter Patricia May; a brother Ralph May; and a sister Margaret Dickens.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, William Richard May Jr. and Dee of Bentonville, and Robert and Leslie May of Pearland, Texas; six grandchildren, Michael May (Alyssa) of Elkins, Ryan May of Lowell, Elizabeth May of Bella Vista, William Smyth May (Colleen) of Snohomish, Washington, Chloe May of Seattle, Washington, and Lillian May of Pearland, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Brynja, Nora, Callie, and Forrest May; and other relatives and friends.
The funeral mass will be held at 9 a.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at Mary Mother of God Catholic Church celebrated by Fr. Benjamin Riley. Burial, with military honors provided by the United States Navy, will be in the Mary Mother of God Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Holt Memorial Chapel.
Pallbearers will be Butch May, Joe Smith, grandchildren, Nathan Smith, Dustin Smith, and Ryan Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Hughes, Jeff Laur, James I. Brantley, Steven Church.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm on Wednesday, July 5, at Holt Memorial Chapel.
Memorials may be made to Mary Mother of God Catholic Church, 1614 Maplewood Road, Harrison, Arkansas 72601.
