William Mays Jr., passed away on June 23, 2024, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born on August 16, 1950, in Peoga, Indiana, to his parents William and Ethel Mays.
William led a remarkable life filled with love, laughter, and cherished with those he held dear. His dedication to his country during his time with the Marine Corps was unwavering, embodying the true spirit of honor and valor.
Outside of his service, William found joy in gardening alongside his beloved wife Doris. Their shared passion for nurturing plants and watching them bloom reflected the beauty and growth of their enduring relationship.
William will be deeply missed by his surviving family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife Doris Mays, daughter Jodi Mays Flake, and son William "BJ" (Kristi) Mays. He is also survived by his sisters Carolyn (Theo) Sizemore, Suzi (Michael) Dilley, Betty Lou (Troy) Williams, Patsy Mays, as well as his brother Joseph Mays and Jim Bob (Terri) Mays. Additionally, he is survived by his devoted step-daughter Jennifer Baker (Christopher) Helms, three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
William has been reunited with his best four-legged friend, Sam, who he missed terribly.
In the hearts those who knew him best, William will forever be remembered for his kindness, strength of character, and generous spirit. His legacy lives on through the memories shared with family and friends.
May he rest in peace knowing that he was cherished during his time on earth and that his memory will continue to be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
