William (Bill) (Oscar) McAlpine, Jr., 89, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2025, in Mesquite, Texas, at Mesquite Specialty Hospital, but was a long-time resident of Greenville, Texas.

Bill was born November 17, 1935, in Arlington, Texas, to Ellen Inez Vaughan McAlpine and William Carroll McAlpine, Sr. As a child Bill was affectionally nicknamed ''Oscar'' by his dad. He was known as Oscar by his family, schoolmates and friends from that time forward. After graduating from Arlington High School in 1954, he went into the U.S. Army. Upon discharge from the military, Bill went to work for LTV, later E-Systems.

Bill married Sue Blumenthal in 1960, who came with Sandra and Billy Bruce J. Blumenthal, which Bill also made his family.

He retired from E-Systems as the Facilities Director. After retirement Bill farmed, which was his first love that he continued to do until his death. He loved his place out in the country and always shared the pickings of his vegetable garden with friends and neighbors. He especially loved his pups, Thor and Sparky, along with his three horses and barn cat.

Bill is survived by his daughter Sandra Baker and husband, Gerald, a son Bill (McAlpine) Blumenthal and wife, Denise, two sisters, Barbara Meier, and Joy Ellen Key. He also has numerous nieces, nephews, grandkids and great grandkids who survive him along with his best friend, Sue Ann Harting.

He was preceded in death by his parents and both brothers, James Norman McAlpine and Charles Howard McAlpine.

A celebration of his life is scheduled at the home of Sue Ann Harting, 1618 Park Street in Greenville. It will be held on Saturday, August 16th from 4-6 pm. Arrangements are under the direction of Coker Mathews Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Cause for Paws, 5810 Joe Ramsey Blvd, Greenville 75402, or a charity of your choice.
