William Mercer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Waite Funeral Home Medina on Feb. 4, 2026.
William 'Bill' Mercer, 83, of Medina, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 1, 2026. Bill was born on December 2, 1942, in Parkersburg, WV, the son of the late Orville and Gladys Mercer.

Bill was a loving husband to Sandy. Together they shared countless joyful moments and created wonderful memories, especially during their summers at Maple Lakes Campgrounds. Bill was a caring, fun-loving, sweet and one-of-a-kind man with an enormous heart who always put his family first. You could find Bill 'bird watching' from his trailer porch. He enjoyed spending time with Sandy, playing cards, especially pinochle, with friends, playing bingo, socializing at the Fraternal Order of the Moose and the VFW, taking trips to the local casinos and Las Vegas, dancing, relaxing at the camper and playing with all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bill retired from Ford Motor Company in 2007, as a respected and dedicated employee. He took pride in working for this company and enjoyed the people he met and worked with.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son William 'Billy' Mercer; brother, Burl Mercer; sister, Sharon Schaefer; sister-in-law, Marie Mercer; and brother-in-law, John Schaefer.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Sandy, with whom he shared 50 plus years together; his children, Honorè (Jim) Hanna, Greg (Sharon) Vance, Cindy (Rick) Nakoff, and Mindy (Logan) Ennis; grandchildren, William 'Will', Kevin, James, Andrew, Samantha, Jessica, Trevor, Tara, Dylan, Rick Jr., Kaitlyn, and Anna; great-grandchildren, Lucas, Isla, James, Kennedy, Chloe, Kinsley, Claire, Alyvia, Kaydin, Jaxsyn, Aria, Harmony, Riley, Sage, Jonah, Josie, Madison, Kierston and Landon; brother, Bobby (Rita) Mercer; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends Henry, Martha, Hank and Evelyn; and lots of friends at Maple Lakes Campgrounds.

Visitation will be held at Waite Funeral Home – Medina, on Monday, February 9, 2026, from 6-8 pm and on Tuesday, February 10, from 11-12 pm, with the service at 12 pm. Burial will follow at York Township Cemetery. Messages of comfort and support may be sent to the family at www.waitefuneralhome.com.
