William Moon Obituary

Moon, William
SCHAGHTICOKE - William A. Moon Jr., 67, of Schaghticoke, N.Y., passed away suddenly at home on Friday, April 18, 2025. Born in Troy, N.Y., Bill spent nearly his entire life in Schaghticoke-a place he was proud to call home. He was a man of quiet strength, generous spirit, and enduring loyalty to the people and places that meant the most to him.
Bill dedicated over 20 years of his life to Hoosick Valley Contractors, where he built a reputation as a hard-working and highly skilled mason. Before his tenure at HVC, his craft took him around the country to places like Florida and Arizona, though his roots never left upstate New York.
Committed to his community, Bill was a volunteer firefighter with the Schaghticoke Fire Department as a young adult, and like his father, worked as an electrician for the Schaghticoke Fair–an annual tradition he deeply valued, often spending quality time with his son.
While he wasn't working, Bill could often be found on the golf course or out hunting with his friends, fishing with his brother-in-law, or simply enjoying time outdoors with his loyal dogs, Chelsey and Hunter. He especially cherished family vacations, with trips to the Outer Banks and Disney World holding a special place in his heart.
Known for his trusted dependability and dry sense of humor, he was the kind of person others turned to when something needed fixing. Whether it was a leaky roof, broken steps, or a full remodel, Bill was the one people called-always ready with a solution and the tools to make it happen. His go-to line, "I can fix anything but a broken heart." was both a reflection of his expert craftsmanship and his sharp wit.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, Evelyn and William A. Moon Sr.; his sisters, JoAnn MacDougall and Jean Hughes; and his brother-in-law, Michael Hughes. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Shelley (Mason) Moon; his son, Cory Moon; his brother-in-law, Ken MacDougall; as well as many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends who will miss his easygoing attitude and the distinctive presence that made him one of a kind.
Relatives and friends may call from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m., on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Home, 173 Main St., Schaghticoke. A Celebration of Life will follow at Sammy Cohen's Restaurant and Bar, 188 Main St., Schaghticoke.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Bill's memory to the Schaghticoke Fire Department or the Hoosic Valley Rescue Squad.
