Billy grew up in the Neponset section of Dorchester where he formed many lifelong friendships. A 1978 graduate of Don Bosco, Billy excelled as a member of their football team. After graduation, Billy was a star linebacker on Eddie's Giants team of the Park Football League where he was inducted into the 1985 Eddie's Giants Football Hall of Fame.
Billy worked at Edison for 40 years and was a proud union member of Local 369, where he made many more lifelong friendships. Always eager to lend a hand, provide support, lift people's spirits, Billy often stepped up without being asked. His kindness had no bounds. Billy had great affection for his friends and their families, who often considered him part of their extended families, including the bonds he had at his favorite spot, the Eire Pub in Dorchester. With his captivating smile and infectious laugh, Billy's presence brightened a room and touched all those who were in it. Although very humble, Billy impacted so many lives and had a gift for making others smile. Billy was loved by so many. He will be very fondly remembered and deeply missed.
Billy is survived by his loving father William Mooney Sr., and his dear sister Michelle Mooney. He is pre deceased by his adoring mother Ellen (Dunphy) Mooney, and his late sister Mary Ellen Mooney.
