Cumberland, MD – William "Bill" L. Moore, 86, of Cumberland, MD, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 1, 2023, at Lion's Manor after a long illness.
Born September 15, 1937, in Cumberland, MD, Bill was the youngest child of the late Jesse J. Moore and Edna Pearl Emerick Moore and lived in Cumberland his entire life. He was also preceded in death by his brothers: Jack and Ernie Moore; and his sisters: Dorothy Marie Wakefield, Hazel Cassady, Marilyn Martin, Thelma Sheckells, and Helen Turner.
Bill was a 1956 graduate of Allegany High School. He began working at age 16, and bought his first house with money he saved from working at Lover's Leap gas station. After graduation he worked for B&O Railroad as a caller. Around the same time, Bill opened up a pizza shop, LaFiesta Pizza, on Baltimore Street. Later, Bill became interested in cars, and he and his brother, Jack began working on used cars. This further sparked his interest in upholstery and he started to learn the trade. Bill eventually opened Moore's Upholstery where he was especially known for his upholstery restorations. His shop served many in the Tri-State area for 60 years until his retirement. Additionally, Mr. Moore was an accomplished pilot, with several thousand flight hours to his credit. During his flying years, Bill was a member of the Allegany Flying Club and Civil Air Patrol.
Mr. Moore is survived by his wife of 51 years: Karen Snyder Moore; his children: William P. Moore currently working in New Mexico, and Grant Moore of Cumberland, MD; his bonus children whom he supported and raised: Carmen Flurie and husband, Dave of Bedford, PA, Dr. Terrance Rephann and wife, Dina Poland Rephann of Charlottesville, VA, and Christopher Moore of Cumberland, MD; his grandchildren: Alexander Flurie and wife, Dr. Megan Hamm of Pittsburgh, PA, Paul Flurie and wife, Emily of Slidell, LA, Brittany, Jacob, and Alexa Moore, and his special grandson: Victor Moore of Cumberland, MD; and his great grandchildren: Clio and Lysander Flurie Hamm of Pittsburgh, PA; as well as his furbabies: Penny, Hershey and Little Girl.
Bill will be deeply missed by family and surviving friends.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, on Thursday, October 5, 2023, from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M.

Moore was a great craftsman. He once did my 1970 new Volkswagen Bug. From white interior, to black. Late years, Chris his son, flew us on a Saturday morning. To have breakfast. So Chris could get his hours in on instrumentation certifications. And Cumberland was never the same, when Mr.Moore closed his doors, to retire. God speed Sir. Cumberland has lost a great Man.
