William Preston Mullins, 40, of Amherst passed away on Friday, December 2, 2022 in Spotsylvania, Virginia. He was born in Woodbridge, Virginia on September 5, 1982.
William served in the United States Army 82 Airborne Division where he bravely fought for freedom in Iraq and Afghanistan. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 12055 and American Legion Post 44.
William also served his community as a Firefighter/Medic and Water Rescue Technician. He had volunteered in Fairfax County and Stafford County. He was previously employed in Florida with Bradenton Fire Department and in Virginia with Physicians Transport Services, Lancaster Emergency Services, Amherst Public Safety, and Spotsylvania County Fire, Rescue, and Emergency Management.
William was involved in an on duty injury on January 4, 2022 in Spotsylvania where he sustained a severe traumatic brain injury leaving him disabled and ultimately leading to his death. His sacrifices for his country, community, and family will never be forgotten.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Mullins, two sons, William Alexander and Clark Bishop, father and step-mother, Walter Brian Mullins and JoAnna Mullins, three brothers, Joseph, Richard, and Joshua, grandmother, Mary Davis, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Preceded in death by his mother, Lisa Ann Davis and his grandparents, William Arnold Mullins, Gwinda Mullins, and Preston Davis.
A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 pm Saturday, December 17, 2022 at Tharp Funeral Home, Madison Heights with burial to follow in Amherst Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Friday, December 16, 2022 at Tharp Funeral Home, Madison Heights.
