William Nellis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home - Turtle Creek on Mar. 8, 2026.
Lifelong resident of Turtle Creek, age 77, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 7, 2026.

Born the son of the late William L. Nellis and the late Josephine (Shanter) Nellis.

Beloved husband of Susan C. (Sargo) Nellis for 40 years.

Loving father of Stephanie (Edward) Davis of Plum, William L. Nellis of Turtle Creek, and Jonathan (Toni) Nellis of Turtle Creek.

Adored grandfather of Danyelle (Scott) Vandevander, Ashley Bayliss, Rachel (Cory) Petras, Carson Nellis, Alessa Nellis, Jackson Nellis, Ethan Nellis, Colton Nellis, and Lincoln Nellis.

Cherished great grandfather of Drake Holloway, Chloe Bayliss, Nolan Petras, Connor Petras, McKay Crenshaw, and Max Crenshaw.

Dear brother of Sharyn Battistella, Debbie (Jim) Kenderes, Jim (Kathy) Nellis, and Kim Nellis. Preceded in death by siblings, Cheryl Nellis, Junior Nellis, and Diane (surviving spouse, Robert "Biggs") Conroy.

Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Bill was proud to have been a lifelong "Creeker", and was a 1966 graduate of Turtle Creek High School. He was employed as a heat treater for Westinghouse, and then eventually with Pittsburgh Gear Company on Neville Island, before his retirement in 2010. Bill was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and loved spending time camping and hunting. His love for the outdoors began in his early years with visits to his family's camp in Laurel Mountains. Later in life, he formed countless memories by taking his children and family to Pioneer Park. Having spent so much time in Turtle Creek, Bill was also a familiar face of the Venice Café on Airbrake Avenue. Bill was also a talented gunsmith, a Jeep Wrangler fanatic, and an animal lover. His greatest quality was the love he had for his family, he will be sorely missed.

Friends are welcome to a Memorial Visitation on Wednesday from 3-7 p.m. at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 1111 Monroeville Ave., Turtle Creek / Monroeville Chapel, Turtle Creek, PA 15145, (412) 823-9350, where a Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
