Dr. William F. Newhart, 63, of Plains Township, passed at his private residence on Friday, May 2, 2025, with his wife and family by his side.
Born in Wilkes-Barre on Sept. 8, 1961, William was a son of the late Herbert and Mary Pietrzyk Newhart. The family resided in the Fox Hill section of Plains Township as he grew up. William started his education at the Cotton Avenue Elementary School and was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, Class of 1979. He continued his education at Wilkes College and received his bachelor's degree in biology. William then obtained his doctorate at the Sherman College of Chiropractic, in Spartanburg, S.C., in 1993.
Dr. William joined his brother-in-law's practice, Dr. Malcolm Conway, in Kingston from 1993 to 2002. He then opened Newhart Chiropractic Center in Plains Township from 2002 until the present.
In 1983, William met Maureen McDermott. On Oct. 19, 1990, the loving couple was married, and resided in Kingston, Yatesville, and most recently in Plains Township. Together they raised their son, William. Over the years, he enjoyed expanding on his cooking and his baking skills for his loving family and friends to enjoy a great meal and a sweet treat.
William was very talented in many aspects of life. He had an engineer's mind in two different senses. One was that of a handyman and carpenter, so that he could look at something broken and figure out how it worked and what it would take to fix it. He inherited this from the years he worked with his "Pop" Newhart, and his father, working on restoring their 1955 Corvette that they took to car shows.
The second was that of a locomotive engineer. William loved trains of all sizes. As a child, he loved Lionel trains, and his passion grew throughout his life for the power of steam on the rails. One of his favorite places to which he took his family was to watch trains pass around the Horseshoe Curve in Altoona.
William was a member of St. Maria Goretti Parish, Laflin; the Pennsylvania Chiropractic Association; and a member of the Masonic King David Lodge, 763 F&AM, Kingston.
William was preceded in death by his loving parents, Herbert and Mary; and infant brother, Joseph.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Maureen, at home; son, William (Tara), Pittsburgh; brothers, Dr. Paul Newhart, Plains Township; and Ryan Newhart, Port Deposit, Md.; stepmother, Colleen, Plains Township; his grand-pup, Leo; and extended family.
Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday in St. Maria Goretti Church, 42 Redwood Drive, Laflin. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. The Rev. Alex Roche will be the officiant of the service. Interment will be held at the convenience of his family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in William's name may be given to Whiskers World Inc., 100 Williams St., Plains Township, Pa, 18705; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Arrangements have been made with care by Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., Plains Township.

Condolences to the Newhart family. Bill and I go way back to Cotton Ave Elementary, but I got to know him better at Coughlin. We got to be good friends. I remember seeing that old Corvette when the restoration was barely started. He asked me to be a driver at his wedding. I'm sure Bill will be missed by many.
