Obituary

William “Jack” Newman, age 88, of Tellico Plains passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Robin Newman McCamey; parents, Vall and Veanie Newman; sisters, Jamila Jane Newman Burgess and Janice A. Newman Young; and brother, James “Jim” Newman; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Norman and Freda Burger.

Jack was a dedicated member of Brown Hill Church for 64 years. He was a long-standing employee at Bowater Papermill in Calhoun, TN serving 40 years. Jack enjoyed spending his free time golfing, bird hunting, wood working, and flying airplanes. He loved to travel whether it was camping at Indian Boundary or at the ocean. Jack was a devoted husband, Pappy (Pap) and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Norma Ann Newman; daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline (Jackie) and Steve Harris; son-in-law, Lynn McCamey; grandchildren and spouses, Kristin and Adam Pennington, Beth and Will Raby, Josh Sylvester, and Will Caudill; great-grandchildren, Griffin Pennington, Jordan Raby, Carson Raby, Laynie Sylvester, and Neyland Sylvester; several nieces and nephews, and many friends.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at Brown Hill Church. Celebration of Life Service with military honors provided by the U.S. Army will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Josh Duncan officiating. Inurnment to follow at Brown Hill Cemetery.
