William Nickols Obituary

William Joseph Nickols Sr., 85, of Vicksburg, MI, passed away peacefully at his home on March 1, 2025. A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, William was born on September 21, 1939, to Charles and Katherine (White) Nichols. He took great pride in his hometown, where he built a life filled with family, friendship, and countless cherished memories.

William honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1963 to 1965. During his service, he demonstrated outstanding skill and dedication, earning a Marksman (Rifle M-14) commendation. His time in the military instilled in him a deep sense of discipline, patriotism, and commitment to those he cared for, qualities that remained evident throughout his life.

After completing his military service, William began his career as a welder, where he developed a strong work ethic and attention to detail. Seeking new challenges, he later transitioned to a career as a semi-truck driver. He took pride in his work and enjoyed the freedom of the open road, traveling across the country while providing for his family.

Known for his unwavering loyalty and kindhearted nature, William was a devoted partner, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was preceded in passing by his parents and brother: John Clark but leaves behind a loving legacy carried on by his family. He is survived by his beloved partner, Barbara Simpkins, who stood by his side for many years. His children, Teresa Caswell, Rosella (Kenneth) McDonald, Shan Nickols, and William (Cher) Nickols Jr., will forever remember his wisdom, humor, and the steadfast love he had for them.

William is also survived by his siblings, Shirley (Charles) Turner, Robert Nichols, and Charles D. Nichols. His influence extended across generations, touching the lives of his grandchildren-Tiffany Larson, Stephanie Tobias, Cloe Nickols, Marisa Hudson, and Kelsey Hudson-as well as his great-grandchildren-Aiden Nickols, Emily Tobias, Bradley Mooney, Aaron Tobias, and William Larson. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, all of whom were blessed to have known his warmth and guidance.

Memorials made in Williams memory may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
