William "Bill" Bradford Pierce, 97, of Shirley, passed away at The Waters of Middletown on February 3, 2026, after a brief illness. Bill was born on April 4, 1928, in Middletown to the late Carl and Leta (Miller) Pierce.
Bill spent his life dedicated to the land he cherished, first alongside his beloved father until his passing in 1987. He continued to farm with the same passion and understanding until 2019, often receiving support from his nephew Doug and neighbor Kevin Jones. No possession brought Bill more pride than his Farmall M tractor that he bought new in 1951. It was a staple in his everyday farm life and often reminded him of the times he spent with his father in the fields.
In addition to his farm life, Bill proudly served as a United States Army veteran from 1954 to 1956. A skilled welder during his time in service, he spent much of his duty at Camp Denny T. Clarke in Germany with the 826th Tank Battalion. His commitment to his country did not end when his service did; he became a revered member of the Middletown American Legion.
Those left to cherish his memory include his nephew, Doug Franklin of Muncie; niece, Tia (John) Davis of Florida; great nephew, Alan (Mariah) Davis of Cumberland; great nieces, Julie (Aaron) Cornacchia of Florida and Annie Davis of Florida; special friend, Delois Mays of Richmond; and special great nephew and niece, Kellan and Bailey Walker of New Hampshire.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Frances L. Franklin; and his brothers, Keith “Bud” Pierce and Gene Pierce.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff of The Waters of Middletown and Southern Care Hospice for all their help.
A graveside service to honor his memory will be held at Miller Cemetery in Middletown, on February 10, 2026, at 12:00 PM, with Mark Herbkersman officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to the Middletown American Legion. Condolences and memories of Bill may be shared at www.ballardandsons.com.
