William Howard Post, 76, of Santa Clarita, California, passed away suddenly at his home on October 13th, 2025. Bill's passing has left an empty space in the hearts of his family and friends.
Bill was born April 3rd, 1949 on the northside of Chicago. As a young boy, his two passions were sports and music. He played baseball and football at the local Boys' Club, and unusually for someone from the north side, was an avid White Sox fan.
In high school, he began playing the drums and was the drummer in a local band, the Phantasions. His parents supported his interests, going as far as letting the band practice in their basement. Later in his teens, he was the drummer in The Rush Hour, a band that gained a local reputation.
After college, Bill began working in his father's masonry business during the day and devoting evenings and weekends to having fun playing guitar and singing for his family and friends. He loved to sing, and even though he didn't think much of his own voice, he always said he did his best with what he had and was always working to improve it.
In 1974, he met his wife, Jeanne. They found a mutual love of the outdoors, and camping became one of their favorite activities. They were married August 19th, 1978 and spent their honeymoon on a long camping trip in the west.
In 1980, Bill took over the masonry business when his father retired. His business spread mostly by word of mouth from customers who knew that he would treat them fairly and make sure a job was done right and to their satisfaction. He was also good about finding work for anyone who was in need of a job--there was always room for one more laborer.
During this time, Bill and Jeanne started a family. Laura was born in 1983, followed by Lynne's birth in 1986. They eventually set down roots in Skokie, Illinois where they enjoyed a quiet life while making new friends and getting to know their neighbors as some moved away and new families moved in.
Bill never gave up his music. He and several other musicians started a band, first called Top Hat and later Flip 'n the Minnows. In this band, he abandoned drums for guitar, keyboards, and vocals. Later, in the early 2000's he and three others started a group, The Billy Goat Boys, that focused on vocals and harmony with two guitars for accompaniment. His final foray into music was in the 2010s when, once again, he played guitar and sang in the band, Brew. His love for his family and his music were the constants that gave his life meaning and purpose.
Although Bill was a man of many talents-Songwriter, Handyman, Guitarist, Drummer, Singer, a proverbial Pinball Wizard, an armchair Jeopardy champion, perhaps his greatest talent was his inherent ability to make the people around him smile.
He filled the world around him with generosity, kindness, and acceptance. More than anything, he will be remembered for the countless good deeds he did for others, whether it was offering someone a job when they needed one, doing repairs when someone needed help, or just by lending an ear when you needed it most.
He was a good musician, a good husband and father, and above all, a good man. He will be deeply missed, but the light he shared with the world will live on in all the people who were lucky enough to know him.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Jeanne Kriechbaum; his daughter and son-in-law, Laura Post and Shannon Wilson; granddaughter, Ariel; his sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Kenn Gubitz, and his nephew Steven Hairgrove. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Howard and Vivian Post, and by his daughter, Lynne.
Donations can be made in memory of Bill to your local food pantry.
