William Rexer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bednarsky Funeral Home, Inc. on Jul. 21, 2023.
William Frederick Rexer Jr., 83, blazed a trail of memories until his passing on Thursday, July 20, 2023, in Binghamton, NY after courageously battling several health challenges over the last few years. William was predeceased by his parents, William F. Rexer Sr. and Alice Mae Rexer; and younger siblings Eileen Castellano and Robert Rexer. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gloria I. Rexer; daughter Pamela J. Rexer; sons William F. Rexer III and his fiancée Trish Burgess, David T. Rexer and James C. Rexer. Also surviving William are his six grandchildren, Alaina Rexer, Camren Rexer, Amanda Rood, Brianna Rexer, Jaedynn Rexer and Colin Rexer. Growing up in Brooklyn, NY the third oldest of six siblings, "Billy" developed a thirst for knowledge, passion for business and work ethic that lasted his entire life. Influenced by his intelligent and highly respected father, a NYC cardiologist, Billy became an accomplished student skipping ahead 2 years to graduate high school at the age of 16. During his childhood, he developed interests in business from selling a variety of wares from a makeshift cart out of an old Hoover vacuum, to becoming a premier player of both handball and basketball on the courts of Brooklyn. Billy's reputation on the basketball courts even landed him a tryout with the NBA's New York Knicks. Upon graduating high school, Bill attended Wagner College in Staten Island graduating in 1959 with a Bachelor's degree in Economics. From there, he landed his first sales job with Turco Chemical in Baltimore, Maryland. With success and surging sales, he was assigned to a dormant territory in Binghamton, NY to revitalize the area for Turco. Armed with a map to find this place he had never heard of, Bill found the path for the rest of his life. After arriving in Binghamton, Bill met his future wife, Gloria and they were married in 1963. In 1966, he had the opportunity to own and run his first business, Flavor Kitchens. Additionally, he went on to operate and led R&R Sales, Binghamton Cold Storage, and Binghamton Tobacco all under the umbrella of the "WFR Group." In 1982, he started Amrex Chemical Co. Inc., returning to his similar roots at Turco. Amrex Chemical Co. Inc. has been in business for over 40 years with his children now carrying on his business legacy. Bill loved his field of work and was actively working until the recent decline in his health. Bill was the ultimate salesman and entrepreneur. There was nothing he liked more than meeting with new and existing customers. He was extremely knowledgeable in all types of industries and loved problem solving with his customers. Over the course of his career, his customers became good friends, whom he valued deeply. He will be remembered as a man always willing to help someone in need. Calling hours will be held from 4:00 -7:00 PM on Monday, July 24, 2023, at the Bednarsky Funeral Home, Inc., 96 Glenwood Ave. Binghamton, NY. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday July 25, 2023, at Trinity Memorial Church, 44 Main Street, Binghamton, NY, with the Reverend Lou Divis officiating. It's July 2025 and I just found out that Bill Rexer Jr. passed away in 2023. I had a brief but productive friendship with Bill as we attempted to get one of my company's chemical products accepted by the NYState Department of Prisons. Bill was very enthusiastic and we developed a great working relationship. We lost touch when, after much work by Bill, we jointly decided that NY State was not interested, in spite of the product successes we demonstrated. I was going through old company records, came across my files regarding AMREX, and went on-line to get an update on Bill. I'm very disappointed to learn of Bill's passing, two years later, but enjoy several memories of the times we worked together.
