William J. Ries "Bill", 68, of Downingtown, passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Andrea Sue Litt Ries, with whom he shared 45 years of marriage.

In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his children, Lauren K. Clery (Kevin), Diana L. Ries (Brian Mason), Victoria R. Ries (Timothy Struder) and Michael A. "Max" Ries (Thomas Delavan). He is also survived by two grandchildren, whom he loved with all of his heart, Finnegan and Reagan Clery.

Bill was a drum recycling business owner for many years and was dedicated to his business and employees. He was known to be an honorable man throughout his professional life. His greatest achievement was in his relationships. His wife, children, their spouses, his grandchildren and friends are trying to imagine a life that is not filled with his presence, interest, humor, generosity, love, care and deep concern for everything that they do.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late James and Mary Smith Ries. He was one of seven children and is survived by four sisters.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 2, 2026 at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Avenue, Downingtown. Family and friends will be received from 9:45-10:45 a.m.

Interment will be private with the family.

In lieu of flowers, go out and have a meal with your loved ones and raise a glass to Bill. As a cancer warrior of nineteen years, we carry his strength forward. If you can, give generously to children's cancer research.
