William "Bill" Aaron Rummel (81) of Hurst, Texas passed from this earthly life and on to his heavenly home on Tuesday, April 23, 2024. His loss was sudden and unexpected, but his family and friends have the assurance that his heart was prepared.
Bill was born on January 17th, 1943, to Earl and Alys Rummel in Bozeman, Montana. Bill was named after his grandfathers, William Rummel and Aaron Ohleson. Bill grew up in Pueblo, Colorado with his two older sisters Earline and Sadie Ann and his younger brother John.
Bill enlisted in the Navy right after high school and served with both his brother and his father at the same time. He was a Construction man in the Seabees (U.S. Naval Construction Battalion) and was awarded the United Forces Expeditionary Medal.
Bill came to Texas for better employment opportunities in August of 1972 at the encouragement of his brother, John. Bill was gifted at repair and understood how anything mechanical worked. He did appliance repair for a time, worked for Vandergriff Chevrolet as a line mechanic, and rebuilt transmissions at Byrd Automotive. In 1979, he began working with his brother John at "The Shop" as it was affectionately known to the family. At the inception it was the only large diesel repair shop in the country. Bill worked on all manners of repair in the business, focusing mostly on fuel pump work in later years. He was an employee there until he decided to quietly retire a week before his passing.
Bill was a collector of cars and engines but more accurately he owned numerous big, ugly cars with great engines. One perceived exception may have been his 1969 Chevy C10 Long Bed, with the "mighty" 2.3L Pinto Engine; a Bill Rummel special. In addition to loving cars, he learned to fly in 1975. He received his pilot's license and would fly home to Colorado and other places for special occasions or even just for fun.
He was a man of few words but loved his Lord Jesus Christ with all his heart. He was a faithful member of New Life Assembly of God (formerly known as Hurst Assembly of God) since 1972. For many years, he served as usher, greeter, Sunday School Superintendent, soundman, air-conditioning technician, coffee-maker and all-around fix-it man. He knew God performed miracles and was a behind the scenes prayer warrior.
Bill was strong-willed and stubborn at times but also kind and exceptionally gentle. He was a hard worker and incredibly clever-there was nothing he could not fix. He loved his family in his quiet way but there was never any doubt they were indeed loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Alys (Ohleson) Rummel, his sister Earline (Rummel) Spicola and his brother John Rummel.
He is survived by his sons Lance (Jennifer) and Troy, grandchildren Josiah, Ethan and Charity and his sister Sadie Ann (Rummel) Austin and several nieces and nephews. He was loved much and will be dearly missed.
A funeral ceremony to honor Bill's life will be held at New Life Assembly of God in Hurst, Texas at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 6, 2024, followed by interment at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas. Visitation will be held Sunday, May 5, 2024, at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst, Texas from 6-8 p.m.

Lance and Troy, so very sorry for your loss. We knew your dad and both of you from Hurst Assembly back when you were both very young. I actually babysat you two. Your dad was a wonderful, godly man. His life of faithfulness to the Lord, the church and his family is to be admired. May you find comfort in the good memories and the hope you will see him again.
