William C. "Bill" Ryley

Niantic - William C. Ryley, 78, of Niantic, passed away peacefully Dec. 16, 2025, after a long illness.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy. He is survived by his wife, Dale; his daughter, Jennifer Penn (Phillip); his grandsons, Joseph and Alexander Penn; his sister, Barbara Morgan; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.

Bill was born in New London Oct. 19, 1947, the son of Charles and Ethel (Allen) Ryley. He attended Waterford schools and proudly served in the United States Air Force.

He retired from Pfizer in 2000, after many years of dedicated service as a utilities operator first class.

Bill was happiest behind the wheel - whether it was his Corvettes, motorcycles, RVs, or boats - or spending time at the shooting range. "Drive fast" was his rule, and he lived by his mother-in-laws favorite saying to him: "The one with the most toys wins."

More than anything, Bill will be remembered for his sense of humor, his love of spoiling his grandsons, and his remarkable ability to make friends wherever he went.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, at Thomas L. Neilan & Sons East Lyme Funeral Home, 48 Grand Street, Niantic. Graveside services will take place at 11 a.m. Dec. 22, in Jordan Cemetery, 240 Boston Post Road, Waterford.
