ARCANUM -- William L. "Shorty" Schaar, beloved husband of Gerry Schaar, went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 12, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 90. He was the son of the late Herman & Adeline (White) Schaar and is preceded in death by his four brothers, Robert (Rozenna) Schaar, Donnie (Jan) Schaar, Richard (Ethel) Schaar, & James Schaar.
Shorty lived a full life enjoying going to Eldora Raceway, watching Nascar, riding motorcycles, fixing things, wood working, horse camping, and listening to his favorite country and oldies tunes on his jukebox. He didn't know a stranger, and could often be found waving to neighbors on his front porch. He was a member of Global Methodist Church in Arcanum. He was best known for his awe-inspiring love for his wife, Gerry, of 71 ½ years.
He is survived by his wife Gerry (Frame) Schaar and three children: Donna (Dan) Hahn, Tammy (Dan) Chase, and Jimmy (Kay) Schaar. As well, he had 15 grandchildren: Jeremy Smith, Geoff Smith, Natalie (Waylon) Clemmons, Tori (Zach) Doan, Jason Daughtery & Melissa Smith, Chelsea (Jason) Burkett, Maliej Schaar & Dustin Denlinger, Marisa (Kris) Quintana, & Garrett Schaar; 20 great-grandchildren: Darrion, Carson, Shelby, Jordan, Lessie, Judah, Levi, Clara, Samuel, Cruz, Allison, Scarlett, Presley, Amelia, Cameron, Alexis, Jadan, Henry, Archer, Addison, Isaiah, and Oliver; and 2 great-great grandchildren, Theo & Vincent. Shorty is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and special friend, John Papp.
Visitation will be on Friday, February 20, 2026 from 12:00 - 2:00 pm, with funeral services commencing at 2pm at Kreitzer Funeral Home (204 N. Main St., Arcanum, OH).
