Born on June 18, 1944, in Hannibal, MO, to Earl Joseph Scheiner and Mary Louisa Forshey Scheiner Schlager, Bill's life was marked by his friendly nature, loving heart, and adventurous spirit.
Bill's journey began in the town of Hannibal, where he completed his education, graduating from Hannibal La Grange University with a business degree. His academic achievements laid the foundation for a successful career, as he became the owner and operator of Scheiner Construction for 40 years. Bill's entrepreneurial spirit did not stop there; he also owned and operated the Rustic Oak Cabin Steakhouse in Perry, MO, and the Rustic Oak Grill and Pub in Hannibal, MO. His other ventures included founding The Hannibal Trolley Company and Top Job Sweeping Company.
Beyond his business endeavors, Bill was deeply involved in his community. He was a Mason and a Shriner, dedicating time to the principles of brotherhood and charity. His leadership skills shone as he served as past President and Vice-President of the Early Bird Kiwanis Club and was a member of the Hannibal Jaycees and the Construction Board. His commitment to his faith was evident through his service as a Deacon at the First Christian Church in Hannibal.
On January 11, 1981, Bill married the love of his life, Doris Thorpe O'Cheltree, in Las Vegas, NV. Their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Doris survives him, as do their eight children: Michele O'Cheltree, Michael O'Cheltree (Susan), Miles Anthony "Tony" O'Cheltree (Karen), Joseph Scheiner (Rhonda), Mark O'Cheltree (Patrice), Lori Scheiner-Ward (Clyde), Melissa O'Cheltree-Ek (Deno), and Heather Artist (Ben); along with one sister-in-law, Sharon Mann; 44 grandchildren: Michael John Findlay (Victoria), Mathew Findlay, Melanie Findlay-Cejka (Eric), Toni O'Cheltree (Daniel), Teri O'Cheltree, Samantha O'Cheltree-Gray (Daniel), Jessica O'Cheltree-Khair (Daniel), Toby O'Cheltree (Airen), Andrew O'Cheltree (Alysha), Kayla Scheiner-Pine (Dave), Kerry O'Cheltree-Maiorana (Mike), Korey O'Cheltree (Krystal), Tyler Shawn Staley (Kaitlyn), Trenton Staley (Bailie), Amanda Fohey (Adam), Alexa Mayrand (Matt), Adam Morrell (Kailea), Abigail Morrell, Maya Ward, Parker Ward, Raederle Ward, Taylor Hamilton-Hees (Kyle), Bradie Hamilton-Woodhurst (Austin), Kennedy Holmberg, Evan Landers, Gloria Landers and Mia Artist and 29 great-grandchildren: Alena, Henery, Kaelynn, Brantley, Violet, Chase, Autumn, Dylan, Riley, Addi, Clara, Addison, Elianna, Amelia, McKenna, Aria, Josephine, Matix, Charlotte, Savanah, Parker, Ella, Aria, Ronan, Vivian, Atticus, Tanner, Haddie and Emmett, who will carry on his legacy. Special people in our lives who are adopted family: Brad and Angel Peters, Rick, Cindy and Morgan McKeon.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Anthony Joseph Scheiner, two sisters, Marilyn Scheiner-Oppy (Duard) and Wanda Jean Scheiner, brother-in-law, Gilbert Mann and a son-in-law, Harry Edward "Eddie" Hamilton.
Bill's zest for life was contagious. He loved people and took great joy in visiting with those dining at his restaurants or staying at the Rustic Oak Campgrounds. His role as a grandpa was one, he cherished most, reveling in the time spent with his family. Bill's passion for life extended to his hobbies, which were as varied as they were vibrant. He loved collecting and restoring antique cars, particularly Volkswagen Vans and Ford Mustangs, and shared his love for travel by exploring the world with his family, whether by plane or family motorhome. His favorite destinations included Arizona and Hawaii, but he felt most at home at Mark Twain Lake, where he enjoyed camping and boating.
Music and dance were sources of joy for Bill, who loved listening to his vinyl records, with The Beach Boys and AC/DC among his favorites. Winters were spent in Arizona, where he embraced the outdoors and back home on his property in Missouri he enjoyed riding his side-by-side. An avid gardener, Bill took pride in both his vegetable and flower gardens. His love for the open road was fulfilled by rides on his Harley Davidson Motorcycle, and as a sports enthusiast, he enjoyed watching St. Louis Cardinals Baseball. A grill master, Bill possessed every grilling and cooking gadget imaginable, with a special fondness for grilling pork steaks and crafting smash burgers on his Blackstone.
Bill Scheiner lived a life that was full, loving, and adventurous. His warm presence and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories that will be cherished and celebrated by his family, friends, and the community he served so well.
