William Schieck Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Macken Mortuary, Inc. - Rockville Centre on Feb. 3, 2026.
William "Bumpy" John Schieck passed away on February 2, 2026. His final moments were spent peacefully at home in Rockville Centre, surrounded by the love of family and close friends. Born on September 7, 1940, Bill was the second of six children born to William and Margaret Schieck. A lifelong New Yorker, he later enjoyed spending time in St. Augustine, Florida.

Bill served his country honorably in the United States Army. Where he met lifelong friends Memo Capone and Tom Boucher, Following his military service, he spent 3 years as a Lobster Fisherman with Memo Capone and then dedicated 21 years to public service as a member of the New York City Police Department, where he rose to the rank of Detective. He was a graduate of John Jay College of Criminal Justice and proudly served as President of the Detective Endowment Association. Through his life's work, Bill forged lasting friendships with people like Louie Cruz, Eddie Lentol, Jack Cassidy, and Ray Kopp which meant a great deal to him. After retiring from the NYPD, he continued working as an audit investigator for Presbyterian Hospital.

Bill's greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. He was a devoted father to Billy and Danny and gained two daughters, Kerin and Katie, when his sons married. He was the proud and playful Gramps to his seven grandchildren-Will, Kristie, Caroline, Daniel, Connor, Molly, and Brendan-and had a special gift for making each of them laugh with silly songs, funny facial expressions and some signature dance moves.

A loyal friend with a quick wit and a great sense of humor, Bill was known for his authenticity and deep love of family. He loved sharing stories from the good old days-his time in the service, on the job as a police officer, and as a lobster fisherman. Cars were one of his great passions. He knew every make and model, but nothing compared to his beloved 1954 Corvette-a true labor of love that he rebuilt from the ground up alongside his baby brother and best friend, John.

"Bumpy" will be dearly missed by all who knew him. His family asks that he be remembered for the joy he brought to others in life, not the sadness of his passing. Family and friends may visit at Macken Mortuary in Rockville Centre on Thursday, February 5, from 4:00–8:00 PM. A Funeral Mass celebrating Bill's life will be held at St. Agnes Cathedral on Friday at 10:45 AM.
