William E Schiffer, born 18 March 1941 in Richmond Hills, Queens the eldest of five, even at a young age Bill was a rock for his family and the mountain of a man would continue his legendary life in that manner. Childhood was spent in Hempstead Long Island where he grew up playing sports and already developing a work ethic that is part of his legend. Bill left the Island to enlist in the Navy with his younger brother and sailed around the world and often said much of that experience shaped his caring and empathetic nature towards humanity and the human condition. After serving honorably Bill came home and decided to pursue his passion for business and truck driving while also still serving as a volunteer firefighter and a youth football coach for the Division Red Devils. Through hard work at United Parcel while providing for a young and growing family, eventually Bill took his shot and opened his own business in the Bronx Newhaven Distribution Services Inc. Where soon through many trials and tribulations, a legendary man left his mark on the industry and many families. Bill was not only a rock for his family and friends but also the many people who worked hard with him. Treating everyone equal and fair was not only his mantra but unwritten law, from fork lift driver to truck driver and all in between. In life Bill loved nothing more than his family, loved to play golf and enjoy life with friends. Bill was a member of Hempstead Golf and Country Club for over 40 years and former president of the club. During his tenure he was the catalyst and sat on several committees and chair for many charitable endeavors to include American Patriot Heroes Golf Committee, Building Homes For Heroes, Queen of Peace Residence, Little Sisters of The Poor and chaired the Long Island Epilepsy Foundation. During latter years Bill enjoyed golf trips with his close friends and weekly cards with the "boys". Watching the Jets and Mets. Most of all Bill loved spending time with his 6 kids, 13 grand children and 3 great grandchildren. Bill was a loving husband and a true mountain of a man who lived a legendary life and most of all loved his life.
But Bill would tell you: " Im a central Nassau guy who drove a truck and owned a trucking company."
