William K. Schmidt, Jr. "Bill" 80, of Spring Hill passed away on Oct. 4, 2014 at Bayfront Health Spring Hill Hospital. He was born in Detroit, MI. He was Catholic by faith and a US Army Veteran. He retired after 27 yrs from the Detroit Police Dept. and moved to FL in 1983 and worked at the Crystal River Power Plant for 17 yrs. as a Security Shift Captain. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 yrs., Nancy of Spring Hill; 2 children, Michelle Cooper of Ocala, FL and William Schmidt and his wife, Jacqueline of Clinton Township, MI; sister, Beverly McPhee and her husband, Mike of Winter Haven; 3 grandchildren, Jennifer, Jacob, and Sarah; 2 great-grandchildren, Alexis "Lexie" and Rylan. Friends will be received on Tues., Oct. 7, from 6-8 p.m. Service will be held on Wed. Oct., 8 at 11 a.m. at 280 Mariner Blvd. Burial will follow at FL National Cemetery, in Bushnell. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to: Operation from the Heart www.OPFTH.com

Nancy, I am so sorry to hear of Bills passing. First met him in 1964 when I started at #5 and his folks lived across the street from me on Maiden. He was a true gentleman as well as a good cop. Rest in peace my brother in blue.

I was shocked to hear of your loss. Please know how very sorry I am. Sgt. Bill Schmidt was my boss at #7-Staff. He was without a doubt the best boss I had during my career. I was sorry when he retired and moved to Florida. I am glad that he was able to have many good years of retirement. R.I.P. Sarge.
