William Scorben Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ely Funeral Home - Neptune on Dec. 13, 2025.
William "Bill" Scorben, a lifelong resident of Neptune, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, December 10, 2025. Born and raised in Neptune, Bill graduated from Neptune High School and went on to build a respected career as a self-employed carpenter for over 40 years. Known for his craftsmanship, dedication, and strong work ethic, he left a lasting impression on everyone who worked with him.
Bill had a deep love of music, enjoying all genres, but he was especially passionate about the Grateful Dead and Ozzy Osbourne. Having a love of trains since a child, "Billville" was established in the attic of '99, and became his newest obsession- a hobby that brought him joy and reflected his appreciation for detail.
He was predeceased by his parents, Irving and Esther Scorben, his stepfather James Baldwin, and his sister Sharon Palmer. Bill is survived by his wife of 40 years, Missy; his children Steve (Kali), Shawn "Shawny" (Liz), Tyler (Jenn), and Josh (Liz Emmett); his grandchildren Morgan, Ryder, William, Sophia, and expecting baby girl 2026 ; his sister Judy (Gary); several nieces and nephews.
Bill's greatest pride and joy were his family. He cherished his role as husband, father, grandfather, and brother, and he will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and the love he shared with all who knew him.
Those who knew him as Bill, knew he was a hard worker- that he loved snacks, cookies, and nice cold miller light tall boy. His family knew him as Pop- who enjoyed family time, parties, and bbq's; who was sensitive and would cry about the smallest things that brought him joy.
If Mom wasn't keeping him busy with chores and projects around the house, you could find him lost upstairs in "Billville". He enjoyed going to yard sales and flea markets where he would find the best deals to add to the town. His true passion was dancing at the summertime concerts; first thing set up at the job site was the radio. If he wasn't mom's guinea pig of baking, he was the first to try the new experiment at the BBQ.
Not only did we lose a brother, husband, dad, father-in-law, Pop and brother-in-law but a friend; a fun guy, who was there for help, advice, guidance, recommendation- a better way of doing something; a conversation, the tool you needed.
He never understood that the kids could reach their snack limit or have too much candy- soda was water. You never got off the phone without a "Love You".
Heaven must've needed a carpenter- You are taking a piece of all us with you- build something good.
