Durham, North Carolina - DURHAM - William Edward Self, 90, passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. He was born in Shelby, N.C., on May 11, 1935, to the late Iva Ruth Dalton Self and Guthrie Carlo Self.

Bill was an Eagle Scout and a 1957 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC CH). He was a Certified Public Accountant and owner of Self and Associates in Durham. As a member of Duke Memorial United Methodist Church, he served on a variety of committees and was Treasurer for many years. Throughout his life, Bill was actively involved in numerous community service organizations. He was chairman of the board of Durham County General Hospital, president of the NC Association of CPAs, chairman of the UNC CH Nursing School Foundation, NC CPA ethics course teacher for years and board member of the Durham Library Foundation. Additionally, he had a long affiliation with Kiwanis and the Jaycees.

Mr. Self is survived by his wife, Barbara Hedberg Self; daughter, Susan Self (Lowry) Caudill; son, Scott (Meredith) Self; grandchildren, Sarah (Andrew) Fletcher, Jeff (Addy) Caudill, Claire (fiancé Alex Chan) Caudill, Griffin Self, Mackenzie (fiancé Eric Thompson) Self, Will Self, Liza Self; great-grandchildren, Elliott Fletcher, Henry Fletcher, Oliver Fletcher, Caroline Fletcher, Theo Caudill, Cole Caudill.

A memorial service will be held in Few Chapel at Croasdaile Village in Durham on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at 2 p.m., followed by a reception.
