William Christ "Bill" Sigel

May 14, 1945 - May 31, 2024

Altoona, Pennsylvania - William Christ "Bill" Sigel, 79, of Port Matilda, passed away Friday, May 31, 2024, at Hilltop Nursing and Rehab. The son of the late William Amos and Delilah (McMonigal) Sigel, Bill was born at his grandmother's house in the Flat Rock area of Port Matilda on May 14, 1945, while his dad was serving in the US Navy. Growing up in Stormstown, he learned to fish, hunt and help with the family farm. He attended one year of school at the one room school directly across from his home. He went on to graduate from State College High School, class of 1963. He was a member of the Future Farmers of America. Bill served in the US Army from 1965 to 1967, stationed at Fork Polk, LA. He worked as a printing pressman at Commercial Printing in State College for 36 years and later owned a home improvement business.

Bill married Linda Mattern on June 21, 1969. They were parents to two daughters: Jennifer Lynne (Joseph Wenzl), grandson, Christopher Devon Bertrand all of Marana, AZ and Kristen Meredith (William Peterman), grandchildren, Nathaniel William and Elizabeth Ruth Peterman of Centre Hall, PA. Bill later married Bonnie Lynn Stevenson. He had stepchildren, Kimberly Williams and Matthew Stevenson. He also had step-grandchildren, Travis Cushing, Nicholas and Brandon Williams and Emily and Ashley Stevenson and step-great-grandchildren, Gracelynn, Kinsley and Maci Jane Williams. Also surviving are siblings, Mary Jo Burega of PA Furnace, Marlin "Jake" and wife, Gloria Dawn of Port Matilda and Darlene Jean and husband, Ronald Hassinger of Julian. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.

Bill was a member of the Litil-Der-Buk hunting camp and a 50-year member of the Port Matilda American Legion Post and the Pine Grove Mills Chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Bill will be missed greatly by his family and friends. He was always ready to help anyone who needed a helping hand, to help with a broken faucet or fix almost anything.

Per Bill's request services will be private. An online guestbook may be signed, and condolences left for the family at www.hakygeorgianafh.com

I was also in Bill's class (1963). Interesting to hear about the one-room schoolhouse he attended in Stormstown. My family lived there for only a few years. As I remember, there was a vacant commercial bldg. next to the house we rented. My parents had a large garden in the back yard, with a stream flowing there as well. I don't remember Bill's family, but I'm sure we connected sometime during those few years. Peace and comfort to the family.

Bill is my cousin. I remember Bill as always being kind and smiling. I would not get to see him often but if I did e always had a big bear hug for me. He will definitely be missed. Much love to Darlene, Mary jo and Marlin and to the kids. I am very sad that he will not be here for the next family reunion.

To all of Bill´s Family
I met Bill many years ago through a mutual friend, Loretta. She had moved back to the area with her family. She was a single Mom who moved to the Stormstown area
She had gone to school with Bill and had remained a friend with him. I remember he always had an ear to listen and was kind to her.
After all the years, after being introduced to Bill, when we would run into each other, he always talked about his families. He really loved his daughters and would always lovingly brag about them.
We would always bring up Loretta´s name wondering what happened to her after she moved West. He had such a kind heart and has always been a caring Father.
Rest in peace and God bless.
Stormstown lost a true citizen. One who loved the area
A friend, Ruth Ann
