William R. Smith

William Robert Smith, born August 9, 1944, passed away on November 22, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Bill grew up in Hamilton Township and graduated from Steinert High School. He received his baccalaureate from Ball State University and his Master's degree from Trenton State College. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, followed by continued service in the Army Reserve. Bill later retired from the State of New Jersey Department of Education, Vocational Education Division.
Bill spent many cherished years at his family's trailer in Holgate, LBI, where he, his father, and his brothers enjoyed boating, fishing, and crabbing. That tradition continued with many summers spent at the beach in Lavalette, NJ, with his wife, children and extended family. Those times on the water remained some of his most treasured memories.
William was predeceased by his loving wife, Peggy; his parents, Harry and Rose; his brothers, Harry and Charlie and his cat, Jo-Jo.
Bill is survived by his son, Mark and daughter-in-law, Anne Marie; his daughter, Kristin; his grandchildren, Cassidy and Kyle, Matthew, Lucas and Lisa; and his great-grandson, Jensen. He is also survived by his nephew, Todd and niece, Tracie along with his beloved cats, Lovie and Oscar.
Bill leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and quiet strength. His family and all who knew him will carry his memory with deep love and gratitude
A Memorial Gathering will be hold on Saturday, November 29, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ 08690. A Memorial Service will begin at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be held privately at a later date.
