William Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Michael J. Grant Funeral Homes, Inc. - Brentwood on Jan. 11, 2026.
Obituary for William Francis Smith, Sr. William Francis Smith, Sr., lovingly known as Bill, passed away on January 8, 2026, at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip, New York, after complications from multi-organ failure. He was 73 years old. Bill was born on June 17, 1952, and grew up in Bethpage, New York. He later made his home in Bayshore, New York, where he built a life centered on family, faith, and his greatest love, fishing. Bill was deeply rooted in his Catholic faith. He was devoted to attending Mass, praying, and carrying on family traditions. He was very proud of his Irish and Italian heritage and loved everything that came with it, the food, the music, the traditions, and the strong sense of family. Holidays and gatherings were especially meaningful to him, and he took comfort in the closeness and culture that surrounded them. A lifelong New York Yankees fan, Bill took great pride in working at Yankee Stadium and loved watching the games or listening to them on the radio. The Yankees were more than a team to him, they were part of his identity and some of his happiest memories. Fishing was truly Bill's happy place. If he wasn't on the water with a fishing pole and a cigar, he was wishing he was. He loved making his own sinkers and tying rigs, always preparing for the next trip. Being near the water brought him peace and joy, and it was where he felt most at home. Bill was married to Judith Smith for 30 years, and together they shared a deep bond and a love that remained throughout their life together. He was the proud father of six children and one stepdaughter: Carrie-Anne Smith, AngelaMarie Torinese (Peter Torinese) William (Billy) Smith, Jr. (Tiffany Smith) Antoinette Smith (John Nugent) Gregorio (Gregory) Smith, and stepdaughter Bella Parton. He was the beloved grandfather of Jacklyn, Nadia, Gianna, Peter Jr., Hope, Faith, Charity, Grace, Patricia, Penelope, Giuliana, John Richard, Dominic, Gabriella, Cecilia, Kaitlyn, Claudia, Steven, and Grayson, and the proud great-grandfather of Amileo and Joel. Bill is also survived by his siblings: Kathy Pedilino, Richard Smith, Robert Smith, John PJ Smith, and Mary Louise Cairo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Louise Smith, and his beloved son, Anthony Joseph Smith. Bill was a man of strength, deep faith, strong opinions, and an even stronger heart. He loved hard, lived fully, and stayed true to who he was. Those who knew him knew his passion, his stubborn streak, his devotion to family, and his love of the simple things faith, fishing, the Yankees, and time spent with the people he loved. While we mourn his loss, we take comfort in believing that he is now reunited in heaven with his parents and his son Anthony, finally at peace, and surely finding the best fishing spot up above. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
