William C. Smith, age 75, of Newark, DE passed away on January 12, 2026.

He was born on February 2, 1950, in Dover, DE to the late John and Esther Smith.

William was a lifetime member of the Middletown Volunteer Hose Co. where he held many different titles. He painted and restored the antique fire apparatus years ago. Being in the fire company was a pure joy to him and he was very proud and loved being a firefighter.

He proudly served in the United States Air Force as mechanic that worked on jet aircraft. He was honorably discharged after proudly serving 4 years. Bill worked as an electrician for Formosa Plastics in Delaware City, DE.

William was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Smith, his parents, and brother-in-law Robert Pitcher.

He is survived by his son, Jerry (Teresa), daughter Sarah (Jerry), sister, Beverley, grandchildren, Jonathan, Sean and Ashlynn, and one great grandchild, Levi. He is also survived by his niece, Jenn (Tom) and nephew, Chris.

A viewing will be held on Monday, January 19, 2026, at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, DE 19709 from 5-6pm. A service will begin at 6pm. He will be laid to rest with military honors at a later date.
