A Mass of Resurrection for William J. Somnitz, 86, of Kirtland, will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at Divine Word Catholic Church, 8100 Eagle Road, Kirtland, Ohio.

The family will receive friends, for visitation, from 9 AM until 10:30 AM on Saturday, prior to the Mass.

Mr. Somnitz peacefully passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, in the comfort of his home. He was born March 15, 1939 in Cleveland, and had lived in Kirtland for the past 57 years.

He was a devoted parishioner at Divine Word Catholic Church since 1977, where he served as an usher during the 4:30 PM Saturday Mass through his final days.

Mr. Somnitz graduated in 1961, with a Bachelor's Degree from John Carroll University in Social Studies and taught in the Mayfield City School District. He also worked in the real estate, banking and trucking industry.

Survivors are his children, Beth (Todd) Lukemire, Matt Somnitz and Jennifer Somnitz Lloyd;

step-children, Mike Squibb and Jeff (Jenny) Squibb; grandchildren, Dylan, Ryan, Byron and Whedy; step-grandchildren, Tyler and Lexi. He leaves his former wife, Nancy Somnitz and also leaves many nieces and nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Sally Squibb-Somnitz and Theo "Winkie" Somnitz, his parents, George J. and Agnes R. (Koch) Somnitz and his siblings, Sue Marie Somnitz and George J. Somnitz.

Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery, Chardon Township, following the Mass.
