William Sprosty Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Garrity Funeral Home on Mar. 7, 2026.
William Dennis "Bill" Sprosty of Seneca passed away at home on Friday, March 6, 2026. Bill was born on September 10, 1953, the 6th child of Charles "Chuck" and Julia (Klema) Sprosty. He grew up on the family farm near Seneca, where he was active in 4-H and FFA. As a child, he spent most of his time outdoors helping on the farm, mostly shirtless. He attended school in Seneca and later farmed with his father until his father's unexpected death in 1973. In July of 1975, Bill was injured in a motorbike accident (not a motorcycle; it was only a 350) that damaged his spinal cord. Despite this life-changing event, he remained determined and resilient. In 1982, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Platteville with a degree in Agricultural Business. He lived in Prairie du Chien for twenty years before returning to the home farm in Seneca Township. Those who knew Bill will remember his strength, his wealth of knowledge, and his remarkable ability to recall numbers and dates with ease. He was kind, appreciative of those around him, and always enjoyed good conversation, especially if it included a cold beer. Bill is survived by his brother, John (Marlene) of Fountain Valley, CA; his sister, Mary Sue (Larry) Booher of Alton, IL; seven nieces and two nephews; and special friends Allan and Chris Foley. He was very thankful for his neighbors and friends who made it possible for him to stay at home until the end. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Joe and Martin Sprosty; and his sister Phyllis (Tom) Olson.

A Memorial Mass of Resurrection will be held Monday, March 23, 2026, at 11 A.M. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Fr. Thomas Huff officiating, with burial in the St. Patrick's Church Cemetery both in Seneca., WI. Friends may call at St. Patrick's Church from 9:00 until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Seneca Education Foundation, the Gays Mills Food Pantry, or the Prairie du Chien Food Pantry.
