William Handy Stansell, 80, of Mount Pleasant, Texas passed from this life into the loving arms of Jesus on February 21, 2024 in Mount Pleasant, Texas. He was born on March 13, 1943 in Gladewater, Texas to Gordon Stansell and Mildred (Brummett) Stansell, one of five boys.
Handy, as he was known, was a member of Nevill's Chapel Baptist Church. At the young age of 12 years old, his dad taught him to become a welder, a trade he carried his whole life through until his retirement in 2009. He was a hard worker all his life. His hobbies included golfing, fishing, hunting, camping, and gardening. For the past several years, he met with neighborhood friends every day and played cards, which was a favorite pastime. He thoroughly enjoyed watching and listening to high school sports. Handy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to all. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Gordon and Mildred Stansell, Handy is preceded in death by his four brothers: Derald, Jerry, Richard, and Johnny; grandson, Corey Dublin; and niece, Patty Jones.
Left to cherish Handy's life and legacy is his loving family: wife of 56 years, Mary Sue (Love) Stansell of Mount Pleasant, Texas; daughters and son-in-law, Amanda Stansell of The Woodlands, Texas and Amy & Robert Burks of Grand Prairie, Texas; grandchildren: Kaitie Dublin and Allie & Calvin Robards; great-grandchildren: Macie Dublin; David Groze, Jr; and Levi & Luna Robards; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dr. Garry B. & Dorothy Taylor of Mount Pleasant, Texas; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the Bates-Cooper-Sloan Funeral Chapel with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Liberty Hill Cemetery in Mount Pleasant, Texas.
