WILLIAM J. STEFFENHAGEN Jr.

William J. Steffenhagen, Jr., 89, passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 in Lake Forest, IL. He was born December 27, 1934 in Chicago and had been a resident of Fremont Center, IL for most of his life where he was a devoted member of St. Mary of the Annunciation Parish. Bill was a former mechanic for Hanlon Ford in Libertyville and after it closed, he & his beloved wife, Ann had a dream and together they built Northern Illinois Mack Company and were later inducted into the University of Illinois Entrepreneur Hall of Fame from the Chicago Campus. He was an avid pilot and enjoyed the precious moments flying his grandchildren around, especially his grandson, Rob, who later became a pilot because of his grandfather. Bill enjoyed riding his motorcycle and looked forward to taking motorcycle trips with friends and also driving and collecting antique cars. He was a man with many interests and talents but spending time with his family was always the most important. Surviving are his 5 children, Betsy (Bob) Tekampe, Bill Steffenhagen III (Tammy), Mark (Sue) Steffenhagen, Todd Steffenhagen Sr. and Kathy (Mark) Meade; 13 grandchildren, Patricia (Todd), William IV (Tanya), Christy (Kevin) Vider, Rob (Lauren) Tekampe, Todd Jr. (Michelle), Jonathon (Lisa) Meade, Ashley (Elliott) Olson, Katie (Chris) Aspegren, Mark, Matthew (Ashley) Meade, Niki (Chris), Kelsi (Mitch) Riley, Morgan (Nick) Birenbaum; 18 great-grandchildren, Marlena (Ryan), Jakob, Andrew, Abby, Levi, Aden, Millie, Everett, Benjamin, Jolee, Emma, Ellie, Liam, Charley, Madilyn, Logan, Sloane, Anna; great great grandson, Stetson and by his sister, Margaret (John) Janiszewski. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Steffenhagen on January 8, 2023, parents, William & Rita Steffenhagen and by 2 sisters, Mary Geary & Barbara (Fred) Behm. A visitation will be held from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2024 at St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, 22333 W Erhart Rd. in Mundelein. Visitation will resume at 10:00 a.m. followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m. Monday at church. Interment will be at St. Mary Cemetery.
