His great intellect combined with vivid storytelling made him one of the greatest professors I even had. His passion for the history of the civil rights movement and the individuals who did so much, including himself, captivated my interest as a young undergrad.

I am just learning about the death of Bill "Strick" who was in the Marine Corp with me. I was so inspired with his intellect that didn't stay in the Corp., when my time had terminated. My mother was a college student and she wanted me to follow in her footsteps. God always open doors for his servant and "Strick" was my avenue for a better way of life. God bless you "jaw head"! Bill, or "Strick," as we called him, walked into the apartment of his then girl friend Sheila Rush, the only black female student at Harvard Law School, and "big sister" to me and several other black undergrads at Harvard. His intelligence, manner, confidence and energy made him an instant role model for all of us. We all decided then and there that's who we wanted to be when we grew up. Harold McDougall, Harvard '67

Dr Strickland was a featured author and speaker for the 2014 Sacto Black Book Fair (SBBF) in Sacramento, CA. College students enjoyed this remarks about student activitism and the. Black Power Movement. He will be missed. RIP.

Professor Strickland was a mentor, who I had taken 6 of his classes and he was also my Thesis Advisor.
We became good friends and upon my graduation from UMASS-Amherst, as I traveled back to MA, I always made the effort to travel to Amherst to have lunch with him. When he traveled to DC, he contacted me and I would pick him up at the train station and I would hang out with him for dinner and just be enlightened by the conversations, he enjoyed with his colleagues in DC.
I am writing this to honor a man, who in the realm of academics, I admire dearly! I learned a great deal of knowledge from him, as well as his peers in African American Studies Department at UMASS-Amherst. A great deal of knowledge of which I know today comes from great minds like his and the others at UMASS-Amherst.
On behalf of the Pina-Rose Family, our deepest condolences. Rest In Peace Professor William Strickland. A Mentor Till the End.

He and I interacted on many issues over the years, and involving Black political and economic empowerment. I will remember our conversations, dearly. What a wonderful Human Being.

Bill was a fellow Boston Latin School graduate and friend! We worked collaboratively in Western Massachusetts! His witness to justice was inspired! Long live Bill Strickland

A great teacher maybe begins with being an equally-great listener. Didn´t matter his superior level of intellect. When you spoke to him you always felt he was listening to you. Professor Strickland also had a great sense of humor and would challenge you as student. He didn´t spoon feed you. But if you sought him out in non-classroom moments he was always helpful. Learned a lot from him about national and international issues. I´d have to say he touched countless lives. Rest In Peace. A deserved rest l´m sure. Your influence remains in those of us you touched.
