My sister Jody and I were privileged to be raised in a local church (first in New Haven and then in Milford) where the Thompson family played a major role. Bro. Thompson assisted my father in both places and made a unique contribution to our spiritual formation as children and teenagers. We regarded him as a great man of God and a patriarch in every sense. We trust that the Lord will be a sweet comfort to the Thompson family during this time of parting. Well done!

My first pastor was William V. Thompson, a very conservative man from West Texas. His going to CT to pastor a church was considered to be a 'home-missionary' area in the north, as it was much more common in the Bible Belt.
He passed away at the age of 98 on Jan. 7th of this year. He had a positive effect on my life, not so much for the dogma he preached or believed in, but for the human person he was. He emulated humility and was, in sort, a father figure to me. He was the type of man who would not only do his pastoral duties of visiting sick members, marrying their children, preparing sermons, and the like, he taught me humility by example. I spent lots of time at the church, since I really didn't want to be home. We cleaned bathrooms, helped with building projects, and worked on building the new church. I went with him to visit the sick and pray with them. He often stood up for me when power-hungry church members tried to tear me down, personally.

He believed in me.

I'm thankful to have known him. Rest in Peace, Bro. William V. Thompson.
