William Lloyd Tickell, age 74 of Gatesville, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 in Temple.
Lloyd Tickell was born on June 16, 1949, in Waco, Texas, to the late William and Myrtle Tickell. Lloyd grew up in Beverly Hills, a suburb of Waco, and attended schools in Waco ISD including University Junior High and University High School. After taking on his first full-time job at Mrs. Baird’s Bakery, like many patriotic Tickells, Lloyd enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served a tour in Vietnam before his honorable discharge in 1970. Lloyd then attended Texas State Technical Institute where he studied Air Conditioning Mechanics, which helped prepare him for the many years he worked in the field.
In 1972, Lloyd was introduced to the prettiest girl he had ever seen, Mary Lee Spross, and they married on May 3, 1974. Lloyd and Mary raised their two girls, Tammy Wright and Sheila Rowe, in Gatesville, after Lloyd transferred to the U.S. Army where he continued to work in the mechanics and engineering fields.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, William and Myrtle Tickell; his wife, Mary Tickell; and brother, Carl Tickell.
He is survived by his daughters, Sheila Rowe and husband, Brian, Tammy Wright and husband, Jerry; sisters, Carol Russell, and Becky Mestayer; six grandchildren, Jordy Haigood and husband, Clay, Bailee Montgomery and husband, Preston, Jarred Rowe and wife, Brytin, Jace Wright, Courtney Rowe, and Kattie Rowe; and five great-grandchildren, Hayes, Carter, Harper, Julius, Cora and soon to be, Demi.
