William Tompkins Obituary
Bill was born on April 15th, 1940 in Warren, Ohio to Mary (Zimmer) Tompkins & Charles Gibson Tompkins
Bill was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School
(Class of 1958)
Almost immediately after graduating high school, Bill enlisted in the United States Marines Corps, where he honorably served for 9 Years and earned a Purple Heart in Vietnam. After leaving the USMC, Bill joined the United States Air Force and served 11 more years in the armed forces.
Bill got married to Donna Jean Rodgers on September 10th, 1966.
After serving 20 years in the U.S. Armed Forces, Bill retired from the military and settled in Columbus, Ohio where he went to work for Abbot Laboratories for 25 years.
Bill was an avid bowler and bowled on the Air Force Base Bowling team. In his bowling career he shot multiple 300 games and even won a locally televised bowling show on one occasion..
He was an avid sports fan and loved his Cleveland teams & the Buckeyes.
Bill is survived by his son (Chuck Tompkins, and Sister Anne Tompkins.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 Years, Donna Jean Tompkins, his son Michael Rodger Tompkins, his parents and his older brother.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 11, 2025 from 6 pm to 8 pm at the O. R. WOODYARD COMPANY CHAPEL 1346 S.
High Street where the funeral service will be held Friday at 11 am. Interment will follow in Fernwood Cemetery with Military Honors.
