William Vanfossen Obituary

William David Vanfossen
Godfrey - William "David" Vanfossen, 77, died at 4:59 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at John Cochran VA Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Born March 2, 1948 in Mt. Vernon, IL, he was the son of Roy Webster and Edith Margaret (Vandyne) Vanfossen. Mr. Vanfossen served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War as a weapons specialist. He was a proud combat veteran. He retired as a self-employed real estate and insurance agent. On November 25, 1967 he married the former Ruth Ann Leathers in Mt. Erie, IL. They had met on the first day of high school. Along with his wife, Ruth Ann; he is survived by a daughter, Julie (Kevin) Botterbush; three grandchildren, Kathleen, Jonathan, and K.J. Botterbush. His daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren were the delight of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Christopher David Vanfossen; one brother, Roy Vanfossen Jr.; and two sisters, Marilyn Jean Johnston and Lessie Mae Mayes. Private burial will be at a later date. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements. Online guestbook and information may be found at www.gentfuneralhome.com.
