William VanTassell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Joseph J Smith Funeral Home Inc on Jul. 19, 2024.
William A. "Bill" VanTassell, aged 63, of Mahopac, NY, passed away on July 17, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on October 31, 1960, to the late Robert and Marian (Tompkins) VanTassell, Bill was one of eight children, growing up in a bustling and warm household that laid the foundation for the man he would become.
Bill's life was marked by a profound dedication to his family and a passion for the simple pleasures in life. On April 23, 1983, he married his loving wife, Donna Schuldeis, and together they embarked on a journey filled with love, laughter, and the joy of raising their four children: Tara Reich and her husband Adam, Megan Talbot and her husband Aaron, Caitlin Maurer and her husband Carl, and Ryan VanTassell and his wife Kirstyn. Bill's role as a father and husband was the one he cherished most, and he instilled in his children the values of kindness, perseverance, and the importance of family. That is why all of his children gave him 6 wonderful grandchildren: Ethan, Gavin, Brayden, Avery, Harper and Finn, whom he loved dearly.
Professionally, Bill was a respected member of Local 30 Union of Operating Engineers, where he contributed his skills and work ethic for many years. His colleagues remember him as a man of integrity and camaraderie, always ready to lend a hand or share a word of encouragement.
Bill's interests and hobbies were a reflection of his love for life and his creative spirit. Family vacations to the Jersey shore were a highlight of many summers, where he could be found flying kites on the beach with the same enthusiasm and wonder as his children and grandchildren. His love for music was evident in the melodies that flowed from his guitar, and his soulful compositions were a testament to his talent and sensitivity. Bill also found solace and expression in writing poetry, leaving behind a legacy of words that captured the beauty and depth of his experiences.
All are welcome to attend a visitation on Monday, July 22nd from 4-8 pm at the Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home in Mahopac, NY. Personal words and eulogies will be shared at 7:30 pm.
