William Steven Vargus Jr.

William Steven Vargus Jr. passed away peacefully on May 26, 2025, at the age of 80.
Born on January 29, 1945, to the late William S. Sr. and Vincenza Vargus, William lived a life marked by love, service, and the joy of exploration. William was the loving partner of Gerry Magnasco, with whom he shared many of life's joys and challenges. He was a devoted father to Roseann Vargus and her husband, Tony Pasuy, and a doting grandfather to Gabriella and Dominic Pasuy. He is predeceased by Roseann's mother Joanne (D'Angelico) Vargus. His role as a grandfather was one he cherished deeply, always eager to share his love of the outdoors and impart wisdom through his playful and fun-loving nature. William was predeceased by his siblings, Dennis and Sandra Vargus, but his memory will live on through his many loving nieces and nephews, who saw in him the embodiment of a life well-lived.
William proudly served his country as a United States Marine, embodying the Corps' values of honor, courage, and commitment. After his military service, he continued his life of dedication to the community as a respected Chelsea police officer until retiring. His colleagues remember him not only for his unwavering professionalism but also for his infectious laughter that could lighten even the most challenging days.
Beyond his professional life, William was a man who embraced the beauty of the world around him. He loved exploring new places with a sense of wonder and excitement. Camping in New Hampshire was one of his favorite pastimes, where he found peace in the tranquility of nature. He had a love for elephants, a passion that spoke to his admiration for the majestic creatures and the wild beauty they represented. His zest for life was evident to all who knew him.
Those who knew William would describe him as loving and fun. He approached life with a warm smile and open arms, ready to embrace new experiences and people. His legacy is one of love and laughter, of courage and kindness, and of a life that inspired others to live fully and joyfully.
Family and friends will honor William's life by gathering at the Ruggiero Family Memorial Home, 971 Saratoga Street, East Boston, on Saturday, June 7th from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M.
