William H. (Billy) Veno, age 86 of Wakefield, entered into eternal rest surrounded by his loving family on July 19, 2025.
He was born in Wakefield and was the son of the late John and Dorothy (Hill) Veno.
William was a lifelong Wakefield resident and attended St. Joseph School, the Lincoln School, and Wakefield High School where he excelled in hockey. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army. He played for the Army hockey team, playing all over Europe.
Billy was a longtime employee of the Wakefield Gas and Light Department. He was an avid golfer and member at Meadowbrook Country Club in Reading. He was also a member of the Merrimack Stripers Club, where he used to take his boat out fishing on Plum Island. He was also a longtime member of the Augustine’s fast pitch softball team. Billy was a resident at Brightview Senior Living in Wakefield.
He was the son of the late John and Dorothy (Hill) Veno. He was the loving husband of the late Susan (Weadick) and the father of the late William E. (Billy) Veno. He was the brother of Helena Enos and Larry Veno and sister-in-law of Carol Lu. He is predeceased by his brother-in-law Dennis Weadick. and his siblings, Edgar Veno, Evelyn Pettigrew and Dorothy Whitcomb. Billy also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Tuesday September 9 from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. At the family's request, interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of ones choice.
