William L. Walsh Jr., 69, of Portland, CT, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, December 25, 2024 at Hartford Hospital.

Bill was born on October 31, 1955 in New London to the late William Sr. and Janet (Chapman) Walsh. He graduated from New London High School and went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Army. He worked for the town of Wallingford in the Waste Water Treatment Department for many years. 

Bill was very active and loved to be outdoors; hiking, skydiving and scuba diving. He was a self-proclaimed computer geek and enjoyed cooking and photography. He was also an avid Minnesota Vikings fan. 

Bill is survived by his wife Marguerite (Cayer) Maddalena and her children, Nicholas Maddalena and wife Elizabeth of Alexandria, VA and Jaime Maddalena and wife Bri of Newington and two grandchildren, Evan and Brooke Boutin. He is also survived by two sisters, Brenda Stefanelli and her husband Gerald of VT and Tina Grabon and her husband Robert of Uncasville and his nieces and nephews, Gerald Stefanelli Jr. and his wife Rebecca, Matthew Stefanelli and his wife Kelly and Rebecca Grabon. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s memory may be made to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Connecticut (https://ctbigs.org/). 

Calling hours will be on Friday, January 3, 2025 from 4 – 6:30 p.m. at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville. A service with military honors will be held at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
