William Charles Walsh, 79, of Stratford, NJ passed away at home on August 15, 2024, surrounded by family.
Bill was born on February 19, 1945 to William & Isabelle Walsh, and grew up in Rockville Centre, NY, with his parents and sister, Patricia. After high school, Bill served in the United States Coast Guard and volunteered for the Rockville Centre Fire Department. During a day at Jones Beach in the summer of 1965, Bill met Karen Schultz, and his life changed forever.
Bill and Karen married in 1966, welcomed their first child, Kelli Ann, in 1967, and relocated to Lindenwold, NJ in 1968. Son William Patrick was born in 1971, and the family of 4 moved to Stratford, NJ in 1973.
Bill spent 35 years working nights for Zallies Shop Rite, and also pursued his passion to help people, working for the Camden County Crisis Center, and in later years for Hillman's Bus Services as a bus aide for special needs children.
Despite his hectic schedule, Bill still found time to be a hands-on parent, coaching his son's soccer teams and chauffeuring his daughter and her friends to City Line Avenue for appearances on "Dancin' On Air." He dedicated his life to his family, and he enjoyed every moment watching that family grow. He welcomed Jeff Cooper as his son-in-law in 1989, and Beth Kravetsky as daughter-in-law in 2001. And while Bill was so many things to so many people, the role he cherished most was as Pop Pop to his 4 grandchildren (Jeffrey Wayne-1990; Ryan Patrick-1992; Hailey Ann-1996; Garrett Charles-2003) and Pop to 4 great grandchildren (Elliana Margaret-2019; Ronan WIlliam-2021; and twins Kohen Jeffrey and Krue William-2024).
Bill was an avid sports fan, maintaining loyalty to his NY Giants, NY Rangers, NY Mets and St. John's basketball team even after moving to New Jersey. He had encyclopedic knowledge of all things boxing, and in the little free time he had, could be found at the racetrack, betting the horses.
Bill touched the lives of so many, and he has left an indelible mark on the world around him. His memory lives on in the hearts of all those who loved him.
Bill was preceded in death by his mother Isabelle and his father William, and is survived by wife Karen, daughter Kelli (Jeff), son William (Beth), sister Patricia Walsh, grandchildren Jeffrey (Rebecca), Ryan (Amanda), Hailey (William Hewett), and Garrett, and great grandchildren Elliana, Ronan, Kohen and Krue.
Services will be announced at a later date.
