William Garrett “Gary” Walsh of Waltham, MA, passed away on January 15, 2025, after a brave battle with liver cancer.
Gary was born on August 3, 1949, in Medford, MA, to Arthur John Walsh and Mary Monica Walsh (née Spurrell). A graduate of Waltham High School (class of 1967), Gary entered the United States Air Force, proudly serving from 1968 to 1972. Upon discharge from active duty, Gary became an apprentice printer and eventually the proud owner of Robert’s Printing in Newton, MA, which he ran for over 20 years. Later, he worked as a security officer at Mitre Corporation in Bedford, MA, until his retirement.
Gary was an active member of the American Legion Marsh Post #442 in Cambridge, MA, where he enjoyed spending time with fellow veterans and participating in the club’s social and fundraising events. He loved being outdoors, especially on the lakes of New Hampshire and Maine, and found joy in relaxing by his wood-burning stove on cold winter days. Gary was a talented cook who took pride in preparing meals for his grandchildren at family gatherings. Known for his easygoing nature and striking blue eyes, he was always ready to lend a helping hand to a friend in need. Perhaps most of all, Gary loved music and dance. Whether at home or an event, he could always be counted on for a spin around the dance floor to his favorite tune.
Gary is survived by his beloved daughter, Erika Fitzpatrick (née Walsh) and her husband Matthew; his seven cherished grandchildren, Stephanie, Olivia, Brady, Sydney, Christopher, Reese, and Kiana; his brother David Walsh and his wife Ava, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Stephen Walsh; his parents, Mary and Arthur Walsh; and his siblings, Kenneth Walsh and Sally Campbell (née Walsh).
Family and friends will honor and remember Gary's life by gathering for an Evening Wake in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, January 31st from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne will be held privately at a later date.
